Minor (Machine Pitch) Rules

A regulation game may be played with at least eight (8) players on each team.

For Minors regular season games an out will not be called for the 9th position in the batting order.

A regulation game shall consist of 4-6 innings. There are no extra inning games; tied games after 4-6 innings will remain tied. Additional (full) innings will not begin after 1:15 play since the first pitch.

Coaches are required to play, in the field, every team member a minimum of three innings each game, with each player getting at least one infield inning. If there is a special circumstance where coaches are not able to follow this rule, coaches will notify the PYBA rep in charge of the Machine Pitch division.

There will be no stealing at this level.

There will be no leading off. Base runners cannot leave their bases until the ball has been hit.

Overthrow exceptions: 1) A throw back to the pitcher from the catcher, or; 2) A throw back to the pitcher from any position player after play has stopped. Once a dead ball throw attempt to the pitcher is made runners can not advance until the ball is put in play again.

A coach from the hitting team will run the pitching machine, or designate a volunteer to do this.

Hitters are under no obligation to swing at “bad” pitches.

There are no walks.

The batter gets three strike swings before being called out.

The batter is out whether a third strike is caught or not caught by the catcher.

The pitcher will stand directly to either side of the mound, in line with the pitching rubber.

There will be no bunting.

A team can only score five runs in one inning.

Players shall slide on close plays. If a runner attempting to reach any base, except first, intentionally and maliciously runs into a defensive player in the area of the base (the runner must be able to reach the base by sliding), he will be called out on the play and may be ejected from the game if the umpire deems his actions to be flagrant. This is the umpire’s judgment call.

The defensive team may play with 10 players in the field, four of whom must be outfielders.

Outfielders may not come inside the fringe between infield and outfield (i.e., they’re not allowed to play in on the dirt).

Shorts are not to be worn to games or practices. A player who comes to a game in shorts will not be allowed to play.

All players present at a game will be included in the batting order and bat in their respective place, whether playing in the field or not.

Players that arrive late will be placed at the bottom of the order.
