Drills

In-field drills:

J-band routines

Hitting drills:

  1. Bat Twist - Put the bat behind their back holding it at their elbows. Isolates their hips. Have them stride and load and rotate the bat using their hips

  2. Ball Throw - put baseballs in the kids hands. Have them stride and load then swing. Have them release the ball where they would make contact. If they release and the balls are going right or left they are pushing or pulling off th ball. If they go right into the net, fence, etc. they are on the ball how they should be.

  3. Stride Load Jump - Have the kids stride load, sink their hips and jump up. This makes them work the stride and load and then isolate their lower half and explode up. Works on balance, and stride/load.

  4. Stop at contact - Have player stride load and swing, then stop at the coaches hand where the ball would be on a Tee. Works on getting to contact point and being balanced and chest on the ball at contact. Have the coach check to make sure their arms are slightly bent, bottom palm is down, top palm is up.

  5. Hip Throws - Have coach hold the players front elbow and knob of their bat. Have the player stride and load then swing with their lower half (all the way through the twist) and leave their hands in the load position. Coach holds the players upper body to create some tension against the hips. Should feel the swing originate with the lower half and not the front shoulder.
